Hiccups

Hiccups, how do we get them. Then once we have them, why are they so hard to give away? There must be some purpose for the hiccups, but they are about as useful as mosquitos to me. It's one of life's mysteries. Anyways, one of my students had the hiccups this week and I was going to get rid of them. They were taking a quiz, so I was going to wait until they were done to scare my student. I was getting pretty excited and could hardly contain myself. As the time was up I slammed a notebook on the hiccuping child's desk. WHAM! The whole class gasped and then exclaimed, "Miss B!!! You scared me!". I was chuckling and then asked if the student's hiccups were gone. He thought about and then said, "Yeah, I guess they are." Although the kids seemed a little tense the rest of the class, it was worth it. The hiccups were gone and I had fun scaring them out of my student. Who says teaching can't be fun?
